The Matildas have sensationally knocked off Brazil at the Women’s World Cup, winning 3-2 after being 2-0 down just before half time.

Matildas striker Caitlin Foord drew one back just before half time with a great finish.

Chloe Logarzo struck to level scores in the 58th minute, before an own goal courtesy of Monica Hickmann Alves in the 66th minute put the Matildas ahead.

From there 25 minutes of stout defending ensured the Aussies took three vital points.

“I’m so proud of the girls, I knew we were in it at halftime,” a bubbling Sam Kerr said after the final whistle.

“There were a lot of critics talking about us but we’re back so suck on that one! It’s just outside noise, we don’t listen to the haters.”

The group is evenly poised, with Italy joining Australia and Brazil on three points.

Italy can take the lead in the group if they beat Jamaica tonight.
