A Premier League striker is missing after his private jet vanished from flight radars while flying over the English Channel.
New Cardiff City striker Emiliano Sala was on board a light aircraft that lost radar contact over the English Channel while on route from Nantes, France to Wales.
French and English coastguards searched for the missing plane for four hours but had to call off their efforts due to worsening weather.
Sala reportedly sent friends and family the following text message: "I'm on the plane. It looks like it's falling apart. If in an hour and a half you do not hear from me, I do not know if they will send someone to pick me up because they will not find me ... I'm scared."
The 28-year-old Argentine forward joined Premier League strugglers Cardiff City from FC Nantes last week for a club record fee o $A27 million.
