LaMelo Ball, brother of NBA star Lonzo, is set to play for the Illawarra Hawks in the NBL.
17-year-old LaMelo is joining the Hawks as part of the NBL’s Next Stars program.
He is projected to be a first or early second pick in the 2020 NBA Draft.
Under NBA rules players must play for a college team or for a year overseas before declaring for the draft.
“I am excited to be a part of the NBL’s Next Stars program and to join the Illawarra Hawks team,” Ball said in a statement.
“The NBL is a really solid league, with great coaches and players, and I am looking forward to putting all my focus and energy into basketball and getting to work.
“I believe this will be an amazing opportunity for me as I continue in my journey toward fulfilling my dream of playing in the NBA.”
LaMelo’s brother Lonzo was just traded to the New Orleans Pelicans as part of the deal to get Anthony Davis to the Los Angeles Lakers.
