Former Essendon champion Jobe Watson says he doesn't hold a grudge against the Bombers, but he does have a feeling of "sadness" for their negligence during the drug saga.

Watson joined the Plant Proof podcast earlier this month and said it was disappointing part of the careers of himself and his teammates were "absorbed" by the saga.

"That makes me sad," he said.

"I don't have ill feelings towards the club, but the club didn't do their job. They were negligent and they were negligent on multiple levels and they had to admit that.

"There's no point harbouring grudges and ill feelings towards the club because of that, but I do have sadness because of what myself and my teammates went through.

After hearing the comments, Triple M's Brian Taylor said it helped him understand what Watson went through.

"It hit home to me when he said 'look, this went on for four years'. His career, life span in football is probably a 12-year, 13-year career," he said

"It's a fair chunk of your footy down the gurgler where you haven't been able to play at your optimum because you're worried about other things.

"That really hit home with me."
