Three teenage boys have been charged over the Aveley bushfire, which burned dangerously close to homes at the weekend.
Police allege two boys, aged 14 and another aged 15, put dry grass in a shopping trolley before setting it alight on Saturday afternoon.
When the fire took hold they tipped the trolley over to put it out, but the flames quickly spread in the windy conditions.
The blaze eventually burnt through 25 hectares of land before fire crews managed to extinguish it.
The incident has led to several complaints from residents, who say there was no official warning about the fire until two hours after it started.
