Perth Zoo staff are investigating the disappearance of a baby meerkat from its enclosure.
The one month old meerkitten was missing when keepers carried out checks last night, but had been seen just half an hour earlier.
It is feared the infant was snatched by a predatory bird or taken by a member of the public.
Police have been called in to investigate the mystery, while zoo workers are going over CCTV in a search for any clues.
Zoo curator John Lemon said if the meerkat had been taken illegally, it is unlikely to survive for long and needed to be returned immediately.
