Perth Urged To Get The Flu Shot

Vaccination rates too low

Perth Urged To Get The Flu Shot

The flu season isn't far off and its time to get the jab!

Doctors say the risk of influenza remains high, but vaccination rates are low.

There was almost 8,000 cases of the flu in WA last year, which landed 1,500 Western Australians in hospital.

Health Minister Roger Cook said, "Influenza is a highly contagious disease and in severe cases can result in complications such as bronchitis, pneumonia and acute respiratory disease and can lead to hospitalisation or even death."

Getting the jab is easy enough, just head to your GP or local pharmacy.

The vaccine is free for at-risk groups including young children, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander, pregnant women, people aged 65 years and above, and those with chronic medical conditions.
