More Money For WA'S Lowest Paid Workers

A few bucks more each week

More Money For WA'S Lowest Paid Workers

A bit of good new for the state's lowest paid workers who are about to get an extra $16 per week in their bank accounts.

WA's Industrial Relations Commission approved the pay rise, which will come into effect on July 1.

It takes the minimum wage in WA to $708.90.

Despite the rise, the state's peak union body, Unions WA, believes it fails to go far enough to reduce the gap.

"Anyone living in Perth on just over 700 dollars a week will be doing it pretty tough," said Union Secretary Meredith Hammat.

"Rent, groceries, electricity, gas and water are all very expensive, so these people will find there's not much money left at the end of the week."
