Man With Rifle Threatens Pair Lost In The Bush

Two men riding their off road motorbikes in bushland south of Perth had a frightening brush with a man armed with a rifle on the weekend.

The pair became lost in the vicinity of Darling Scarp Road while riding in Meelon on Saturday and stopped in a clearing to get their bearings when a car approached.

The car stopped next to them and its alleged a 70 year old man pointed a rifle at one of them and struck his helmet with the end of the gun, threatening to shoot them.

They took off in a hurry and told authorities.

Following an investigation, police yesterday searched a Lesmurdie residence and seized a firearm.

The man has been charged with being armed to cause fear, act or omission likely to endanger life and common assault.

He will appear in the Mandurah Magistrates Court next week.
