Miners and other workers from the state's gold mining sector protested at State Parliament today, fiercely opposing the proposed royalty increases.

The Chamber of Minerals and Energy released modelling, which suggested the hike could cost the industry 3,000 jobs, with thousands more in jeopardy if the price of gold falls.

The royalty hike is an important budget measure from the McGowan Government, with the potential to plug an almost $400-million hole in the state's finances.

The WA Liberal Party is expected to announce it will block the measure after party room talks today.
