Five Movies That Might Save Your Sanity This School Holidays

School holidays time… You know what that means…

How long can I last before they drive me absolutely through the roof?

If you need to get the little angels out of the house, you could do worse than taking them to a flick. Just over two hours of precious quiet time.

We’ve seen the five on offer right now at a cinema near you… and it looks like there’s something for everyone.

Smurfs: The Lost Village

It’s a welcome return to form for The Smurfs, those little blue creatures that you probably grew up with.

The good news is that it’s funny…

The better news is that, after all these years, we work out why there’s only ever been one girl Smurf. Finally...

Lego Batman

We might be biased, but we reckon Will Arnett is the best Batman ever! His voice!!!!

This is great for both big and little kids alike. The retro throwback to the camp Batman TV show of the ‘60s is funny as.

Beauty And The Beast

Maybe just one for the girls here… a reboot on a classic movie released in the early ‘90s. The difference this time is that it’s a live-action/CGI match made in heaven.

It’s getting lots of buzz on the street and we reckon it’s well worth it. Even if the wolves are a little scary (probably best for 10+ kids).

Power Rangers

Speaking of reboots, this one is awesome.

The Power Rangers have escaped the ’90s (there’s a theme running here) and hit the big screen, big time!

It’s not the first time they’ve made a film about it, of course. But it’s definitely the best in our humble opinion.

And how’s this for a fun fact… It is the first blockbuster film to feature LGBTQ and autistic superheroes. We say kudos to that!

The Boss Baby

If you’ve seen The Cat In The Hat, you’ll know how funny Alec Baldwin is. We were stoked when we saw that he plays the voice of 'The Boss Baby', and with good reason. He’s hilarious!

Mark this one down as one for the kids as well as the parents!

Did we say 5? We just couldn’t ignore…

Dance Academy: The Movie

We know… we said the five best, but we just couldn’t the Aussie offering in all of these…

And we’re glad we did… After all, a generation of us grew up on this TV show on ABC3, and now it’s hit the big screen.

Definitely one for the older kids, but it manages to capture the magic of the original TV show, and that gets a big tick from us.
