Perth Zoo staff have removed several ropes from the orangutan enclosure following the escape of two primates.
The zoo's curator of operations John Lemon said five-year-old Sungai fell over a barrier into a garden bed yesterday, prompting his mother Sekara to rescue him.
"Initial information suggests the containment breach was due to the youngster falling from the new ropes which we had added into our enclosure," Mr Lemon said.
The 26-year-old female primate caused a stir when she then moved onto a visitor boardwalk.
"By removing those, we've solved the problem."
A full investigation is now underway into the incident.
