Why You Won't Be Showing Your New iPhone The Finger

Facing The Future...

Why You Won't Be Showing Your New iPhone The Finger

Touch ID could be going away entirely on the next iPhone.

Apple's reportedly weighing up ditching the technology in favour of something called 3-D facial detection.

The company's traditionally pretty good at keeping secrets.

In the past leaks on new iPhones - or any device for that matter - were pretty hard to come by.

But in recent years, the drip feed of rumours and alleged facts have turned into a steady stream of juicy details - all unconfirmed by Apple of course.

This latest report seems legit though and comes from a source who's been reliable on Apple's plans in the past.

3D facial detection is being tested as a replacement for the Touch ID fingerprint authentication.

With the iPhone 8 (or X... or iPhone 8X 3000...) will have a dramatically reduced bezels which is the frame around the screen.

With the home button set to be ditched that's left Apple searching for a solution on how to easily unlock a phone or make a payment.

Bloomberg reports the current idea "is powered by a new 3-D sensor, added the people, who asked not to be identified discussing technology that’s still in development."

That's not all.

"The company is also testing eye scanning to augment the system, one of the people said."

To help make this a reality, the new iPhone would feature something called ProMotion display tech already seen on the new iPads.

They're capable of updating displays at a higher refresh rate, cutting down on blur when you're scrolling.

Expect the phone to ship in fewer colours than the revised 7S and 7S Plus that's also expected to be unveiled around September.
