Too Many Aussies Never Come Home Alive From Holiday

Aussies are known to love globe-trotting but their travel obsession is landing them in more trouble abroad.

The latest Federal Government data shows how in the 12-months to May 31, consular assistance was sought for 660 Aussies who were hospitalised in just five countries.

While another 484 needed help after being arrested.

Thailand was the country where we encountered the most trouble, 212 people lost their lives there while there were 200 Thai hospital admissions in the last year.

All up, 621 people died in five countries but deaths and injuries involving Australians in Thailand were up 26 per cent on the previous year.

The United States was where the most number of our locals fell foul of the law with 170 arrests and 53 people jailed.
