Sydney's Controversial Lockout Laws Relaxed

Sydney’s controversial lockout laws in Kings Cross and Sydney’s CBD will be relaxed as of January as part of a two year trial.

If you’re a live music or entertainment venue, lockouts and last drinks will be extended by 30 minutes to 2am and 3.30am respectively, while bottle shops can stay open one hour later and close at 11pm.

"[Hon Ian] Callinan found that the lockout laws introduced in 2014 have resulted in ‘much safer, quieter and cleaner areas’,” Premier Mike Baird said.

"He made some common sense suggestions for changes that we are confident will further enhance night-life in the precincts without undermining the essential purpose of the laws – which is to make the CBD and the Cross places where people can enjoy a safe night out."
