Six more deaths have been confirmed as a result of an influenza outbreak in Tasmania.

The state's public health department confirmed flu outbreaks had affected 21 nursing homes across the state, with nine still being monitored.

The residents who died were at the Strathdevon aged care facility in Latrobe.

Director of public health Mark Veitch said in a statement it "was a sad event for the families affected, but can occur among frail people during an influenza season".

It follows the confirmation on Friday that the deaths of seven elderly residents in St John's Retirement Village in Wangaratta were all due to an influenza outbreak.

A government spokesman said the six deaths had all occurred over the last two weeks.

Uniting Agewell, who own the Tasmanian facility, confirmed the deaths in a statement on Saturday, but said the outbreak had been cleared as of August 30.
