Revenge Porn Now A Crime In NSW

The NSW state government has announced that revenge porn will now be a crime, with new laws making it an offence to intentionally record or distribute an intimate image of a person without their consent.

This crime will have a penalty of jail time and an $11,000 fine.

The legislation will also cover the instance where threats are made to distribute intimate images, in order to protect victims of controlling or abusive relationships.

Failing to take down material could result in an extra two-years in jail and a $5,500 fine.

"The new laws shift the power away from vengeful ex-partners and manipulative predators and help victims regain privacy and dignity," Attorney General Mark Speakman said in a statement.
