Razor Blades Discovered Inside Returned SSM Survey Envelope

There are reports that Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) staff have found razor blades inside a returned same sex marriage survey envelope.

The envelopes had been submitted as the country votes on whether same sex marriage should be legalised in Australia.

ABS staff have also found other items, like glitter and soil, enclosed in returned envelopes.

Australians were warned prior to the survey going out that envelopes containing glitter could impact the validity of their vote.

However, due to limited information, the Australian Federal Police will not be taking any further action regarding these matters.

There have been a total of 34 complaints of fraud made in relation to the survey, ABS statistician John Palmer said.

In addition to this, 14 of those complaints related to the attempted sale of survey forms online, while another four were referred to police involving survey form theft.

With under two weeks to go before the survey closes on November 7, the fourth weekly ABS update revealed that 11.9 million people have voted.
