Oscar Pistorius has been injured in a brawl at the prison in which he is serving time for the murder of his girlfriend, the Department of Correctional Services has revealed.
The former Paralympic champion was allegedly left with bruising as a result of the fight with another inmate at the South African jail on December 6.
"Oscar Pistorius sustained a bruise following an alleged incident with another inmate over the use of a public phone in the special care unit where both offenders are detained at Attridgeville correctional centre," Singabakho Nxumalo, a spokesman, said.
Local media are reporting that Pistorius had angered fellow inmates by conducting a lengthy phone conversation, although this detail has not been confirmed.
Nxumalo also said that an official investigation into the incident had been launched.
Pistorius was found guilty of killing Reeva Steenkamp by shooting at her through a closed bathroom door at his home in Pretoria on Valentine's Day 2013.
The athlete had his original conviction of culpable homicide upgraded to murder and his six-year sentence more than doubled after the state successfully argued that it was "unduly lenient".
Pistorius was moved to Attridgeville prison, which caters for inmates with physical disabilities, in November 2016.
