Dole bludging will get a whole heap more personal today, when the Federal Government reveals exactly what it costs the average Australian to keep a single person on welfare.
Turns out, it's more than $222,000 to fund an individual's dole life.. that includes everything from their regular payments, to job seeking and training fees.
Broken down, and considering the fact that modelling shows the average dole recipient will stay on welfare for 15 years of their life, that equates to 14 years worth of an average Australian earner's taxes that are needed to fund their dole lifestyle.
What's worse, is the latest Priority Investment Approach data (released yesterday) which reveals there are more than 93,000 persistently non-compliant job seekers in the Centrelink system.
The government's decision to unveil the actual cost of welfare is all part of backing the Social Services Legislation Amendment (Welfare Reform) Bill, which includes plans for drug testing recipients.
