Five people have died after a helicopter crashed into New York City's East River earlier today.
It is understood that the helicopter had been chartered for a photo shoot when it went down near Gracie Mansion.
There were six people on board, with the pilot managing to escape alive and emerging from the water to desperately call for help.
Footage of the incident was posted on social media before the deaths were confirmed.
The helicopter could be seen losing altitude before crashing into the water.
“There were six people on the helicopter,” said Fire Commissioner Daniel Nigro, reports NY Daily News.
“The pilot freed himself. The other five did not. The police, fire divers entered the water and removed the other five.”
