Does Australia Need A 'Fat Tax'?

First it was a 'sugar tax', now Aussie doctors say we need even more drastic measures to deal with people tipping the scales.

One of the largest gatherings of experts has proposed a 'fat tax', which could include increasing health insurance premiums for overweight and obese Aussies, putting a weight limit on selected surgery procedures and even making airline seat fares pricier for larger customers.

Other measures like removing the GST on certain healthy foods and restricting junk food advertising are also reportedly being considered.

Right now, two-thirds of Aussie hospital patients are overweight or obese and doctors say it's vital legislation be introduced to control the nation's unhealthy food habits, because it won't happen with exercise and surgery alone.
