Budget Ready to Sting Students

Uni Set To Cost Even More

Budget Ready to Sting Students

The Government is looking to save some cash and have got university students in their sights.

Student fees will rise by about 8 per cent with the government's new higher education changes.

Graduates will be asked to start paying back HECS debt when they earn $42,000 pa, instead of the current threshold off $55,000.

The federal education minister insists a further $2.8 billion budget hit to universities will not affect Australia's reputation
as an attractive study destination for foreign students.

Simon Birmingham unveiled the Turnbull government's revamped university package in Canberra last night.

It includes a $2.8 billion cut to universities, which will be imposed via a two- year efficiency dividend on teaching funding only as well as a fee increase to students.
