There's been a national recall of Polaris youth quad bikes, after they were found with parts containing asbestos.
All up, 12 models sold since 31 December 2003 have been pulled from circulation because their brake pads, brake shoes, gaskets and washers were deemed a safety risk.
- Scrambler 50
- Scrambler 90
- Predator 90
- Outlaw 90
- Outlaw 110
- Sportsman 90
- Sportsman 110
- Phoenix 200 - front and rear brakes
- Predator 50
- Outlaw 50 - front & rear brakes and heat shield washer
- Sawtooth 200 - rear brakes only
- Ace 150 - gaskets only
Certain parts have also been recalled:
- Front brake shoe 0450422
- Rear brake shoe 0450434
- Front brake pad 0454664
- Heat shield washer 0453861
- Rear brake shoe 0452705
While the affected parts will usually be no harm to anyone through normal use (but would be a problem for anyone who does some home mechanical work), anyone who owns one of them will receive a letter. They then need to get in touch with a Polaris dealer to organise to have the parts replaced by safer alternatives.
