Hundreds of jobs are to be created as online retailer Amazon has revealed the location of its first Australian warehouse will be in Melbourne.
According to the Amazon Australia’s Director Of Operations Robert Bruce, a 24,000 square warehouse will shortly open in Dandenong South, and will be capable of stocking “hundreds of thousands products”, ABC reports.
“This is just the start,” Mr Bruce said in a statement.
"Over time, we will bring thousands of new jobs to Australia and millions of dollars of investment as well as opening up the opportunity for thousands of Australian businesses to sell at home and abroad through Amazon Marketplace."
"This new fulfilment centre will stock hundreds of thousands of products which will be available for delivery to customers across Australia when we launch our retail offering.”
Double the size of Walmart – Amazon has now seized the crown as the largest retailer on Earth.
While the opening date for the warehouse is yet to be announced, many local retailers are reportedly fearing the impact to the local retail sector.
