Accountants Cop Blame For Oscars Bungle

Someone's gotta take the blame for yesterday's Oscars Best Picture bungle - and the award show's accountants have stuck their hands up.

There was chaos on stage yesterday when La La Land was announced as the winner - only for the world to learn a few moments later that Moonlight was the real winner.

Price Waterhouse Coopers has been in charge of the counting of votes and distributing the envelopes with winning names for many Oscars ceremonies. Their employees stand in the wings, passing the envelopes to presenters right before they walk on stage. The firm has issued a statement overnight saying "We sincerely apologise to Moonlight, La La Land, Warren Beatty, Faye Dunaway, and Oscar viewers for the error that was made during the award announcement for best picture”. The firm has also promised a full investigation into the bungle, which is unheard of in the event's 88 year history.

While there were a few sad faces from the La La Land team after yesterday's bungled Oscars announcement - some punters are celebrating. 350 people put their money with Sportsbest to back the film at odds of $1.17 , only for the REAL envelope to be opened and reveal Moonlight as the Best Picture winner. Moonlight was the $4.50 outsider, so the betting agency decided to pay out $40 000 for both results.
