Legal Action Launched Against Wallarah 2 Decision

A summons is set to be issued against NSW Planning Minister Anthony Roberts, as the Wallarah 2 saga continues.

The Australian Coal Alliance has made good on its promise to take legal action over the underground Coal Mine approved in the Central Coast's water catchment area, lodging their case in the Land and Environment Court.

Representatives from the Wyong Areas Joint Coal Venture will also have to appear during proceedings, which may take more than a year.

"If the mining company thinks they can wear the community down and we'll go way, they're very much mistaken," says campaign director Allan Hayes.

"What really needs to be remembered is that foreign interests must understand they don't own our water, we do, and they have no rights to jeopardise it just to satisfy their destructive agenda."

"Senior Counsel has advised us we have a good case - a good chance of success - and that there were a number of errors made in the decision-making process by the Planning Assessment Commission."
