A monstrous crowd is expected for tonight's A-League derby between Sydney FC and the Western Sydney Wanderers.

The crowd record is tipped to be smashed, with up to 65,000 fans set to pack ANZ Stadium for a heated contest.

A crowd remotely near that would smash the previous record, when 50,333 fans crammed Etihad Stadium when Melbourne Victory hosted Sydney 10 years ago.

It's only the second time ANZ Stadium has been used in the A-League - Sydney defeated Newcastle 2-0 there back in January - with another fixture between Sydney and WSW scheduled at the venue in February next year.

It won't be the highest soccer crowd there, though - 83,598 people witnessed Sydney play Chelsea last year, while 82,698 saw Australia's epic World Cup qualifier with Uruguay back in 2005.
