Shane Warne Has Absolutely Teed Off On Steve Smith’s Dismissal
Steve Smith might be in some strife for his reaction to getting out in controversial circumstances yesterday, but at least he can take solace in knowing Shane Warne is on his side.
Warnie teed right off on the decision that sent Smith back to the sheds for a four ball duck, saying that it should never have even got to the review process.
"I can't believe that's out. I just believe that sets a really dangerous precedent for the rest of the series,” Warne said on Channel Nine.
“I dunno how they appealed for it to be honest, and as a spinner I appeal for everything!”
He then set his sights on the DRS system on Instagram.
“If a player reviews an LBW decision, please can we get rid of the umpires call verdict & make it simple for the viewer, player & everyone watching,” he wrote.
“Take the on field decision out of the equation & if 40% or more of the ball is hitting the stumps = out. If less than 40% off the ball is hitting the stumps = not out.”
He also suggested that the review system needed to become more widespread.
“All teams should be playing under the same DRS system this should be funded by the ICC, not the TV networks,” he said.
“This also means all teams are playing under the same conditions & is fair!”
Australia faces an uphill battle when play resumes today, with South Africa leading by 102 with eight wickets in hand.
