Dave Warner has nearly kicked off the Australian summer of cricket in the best possible fashion, missing out on a classy century at the WACA.

Building a sensational partnership with opening partner Shaun Marsh, Warner reached the 97 mark off 100 balls before being dismissed.

Trying to drive a Dale Steyn delivery off the front foot, Warner knicked the ball to first slip where he was caught by Hashim Amla.

Australia are now 1/158 - still in a commanding position only 84 runs behind South Africa.
