Essendon champion Dustin Fletcher appears to have found a new football home with the Doutta Stars.

Fletcher has committed to playing for the Stars in the Eastern District Football League next season, according to a report in the Moonee Valley Leader.

Dean Wallis, who coaches the Stars and played and coached Essendon, confirmed the news.

“He’s still got itchy feet and he still wants to play on the back of what happened (this) year. He still trains and runs and keeps fit," Wallis told News Corp.

"He came down and watched a few games (this) year and understands how I operate. If we can get a few games out of him next year it will be great for the club."

It will mark Fletcher's return to football, after he retired from AFL football in round 9, 2015 after reaching his 400-game milestone.
