The Western Bulldogs have defeated Sydney in the 2016 Grand Final, winning 13.11 (89) to 10.7 (67).

It was a titanic struggle all day, with the Swans leading in the first and second quarters before the Dogs took control in the second half to overwhelm Sydney.

Bulldogs half-back speedster Jason Johannisen won the Norm Smith medal with 10 votes, beating out Sydney contested midfielder gun Josh Kennedy and Tom Boyd to the award.

In a touching moment, coach Luke Beveridge handed injured captain Bob Murphy his premiership medallion.

Boyd kicked 3.2 from 14 touches and 8 marks, while midfield warrior Liam Picken booted 3.0 from 25 touches, with three marks, five inside 50s and four tackles.

It’s only the Dogs’ second flag in their history, and their first in 62 years.
