Forgotten Swan Alex Johnson has signed a new one-year contract extension.

The Sydney defender has been plagued by knee problems since rupturing his anterior cruciate ligament in 2013.

He has battled recurring issues in his ACL, needing a whopping five knee reconstructions, as well as a knee infection.

Johnson has agreed to terms on a new deal, which Sydney head of football Tom Harley is thrilled with.

"We have always been committed to giving AJ every possible chance to return to senior football," Harley said.

"This coupled with the fact that Alex is such a quality young man made for a very straight forward decision."

Johnson's quality was shown when he received the Best Clubman Award in 2016 for his time around the club during his rehabilitation.

"I speak on behalf of everyone involved with the Sydney Swans when I say that we can't wait to see Alex extend his games tally with the club," Harley said.
