Western Bulldogs president Peter Gordon has sledged Sydney superstar Buddy Franklin after the Dogs knocked off the Swans 13.11 (89) to 10.7 (67) in yesterday’s Grand Final.

Speaking at the Bulldogs’ premiership function last night, Gordon referenced the Tom Boyd deal and clipped Buddy on the way through.

"A couple of years ago, we did a deal to get a young fella called Tom Boyd to the club," Gordon told around 1000 guests.

"We haven't disclosed the details of that contract, it's obviously a fair whack."

Gordon said he was shocked by the depth of the reaction to Boyd’s contract.

"Truthfully, when it happened, the Buddy deal had happened a year earlier and I'll confess I had no idea of the obsession, jealousy, hatred and malice that some of the Melbourne media would portray towards that [Boyd's] contract.”

Gordon felt that the redemption of Boyd’s performance yesterday was sweet.

"Every time he might have missed a mark or done something not particularly perfect, the way it would reflect on him, on me, on the club and how inappropriate it was for an uppity, young club like the Bulldogs to even contemplate a deal like that,” Gordon said.

”And then I thought about that this week when someone said, if Buddy Franklin kicks a few goals today and Sydney win the game because of that contribution, that in itself will justify a much larger deal of $11 million over 11 years for that recruitment two years ago.”

Then he couldn’t help himself but to sledge Franklin.

"Good luck to Buddy, he kicked one today. But our Tom kicked three - and it could so easily have been four - and took eight marks,” Gordon said.

"I want you to know, Tom, I couldn't be more proud of you.”

Boyd’s eight marks included six contested and two inside 50, while he also chipped in with 14 hitouts, 14 disposals (nine of them contested) and four inside 50s.

He finished third in the Norm Smith voting with seven votes.
