Extended Trading Hours Post by: The Bunch 13 October, 2009 - 9:29 AM
Debate has raged all over the state about extended trading hours. With WA recently saying no in a referendum, as well as the opposition defeating Premier Barnett's plan for weeknight trading to 9pm, the latest attempt is to allow shops to open until 8pm.
The Labour party have gone back to the government and suggested they would back a 7pm extension. From all reports the government isn't willing to back this.
Finally, is it really about weekday trading hours, or about shops being able to trade on Sunday? We want to know from you? Do you support extended trading hours, or are you happy with the way things are?

I'm 86 years old, live a vibrant life and am quite often caught out missing the 6pm close time. I say keep them open.

I dont think we need trading until 8pm every day, I would prefer the shops to be open 7 days a week,
Once I get home from Work I don't really like going out again,
I like doing my shopping on Sunday's because my husband is at home to look after the kids, whilst I do my food shopping no hasles

we definitely DO NOT need any later trading. Think about the poor staff that are stuck there in the shops, surely they are entitled to be with their families. the students need to be home doing their studies and homework!!!

When the premier returned to politics he took the seat from a lady to assist in his comeback. Part of the deal was that for her to vacate the seat to Colin he had to promise to get extended trading hours for Woolworths and Coles stores.
Iknow of no liberal member who as asked any store owner what affect. extended trading hours would have on them..To give extended hours to the big two will ruin some small businesses, will cause the cost of food groceries to rise( More hours more wages cost to be passed on in your bill, not onl;y wages but other outgoings like electrical , holiday pay, security, have to be paid for THESE COST WILL BE PASSED ON TO YOU) HELP YOUR LOCAL DELI. SAY NO TELL COLIN B LEAVE IT HE IS NOW A DICTATOR NOT AN ELECTED MEMBER -

Perth is so backwards compared to the other states. We all live a busy life so it's defiantly time for extending shopping hours

I honestly can't see why people shouldn't have the option of going to woolies etc on a weeknight after work to shop if that's what they need to do to fit everything in to their busy life. Obviously there are people in Perth that disagree so then why can't it just be up to these people to not go to the shops after hours whilst not ruling it out for everyone else who would. Just like Sunday trading, if you don't agree with it then don't go but why disadvantage the people that do need to go on a Sunday. I'm sure there are poeple that would be happy earning a few extra hours pay a week too!

What is wrong with WA, I work full time and would love 7 day a week trading and late trading. I used to work in this industry and anyone who says they feel sorry for the staff, please be advised that the staff rotate hours to suit the employee. As a full time mum, it was great to work the weekends and late hours because I did not have to pay a baby sitter, hubby would take care of them.. WA is the lauging stock of the country, we are so far behind the times, and it is about time we changed our old ways.

I think that they should look at the other States. My sister in Law still gets the same pay or a little more for less hours. This suites herand helps the economy go around. So give us more hours then more people will be in work and people will be better off then they are now.

There is no need for shops to be open til 9pm in answer to people who say they rotate the hours that does not extend to the students who do most of the work they will have their schoolwork suffering. if there is anything we need to think about it is how educated the future leaders of this state will be.
