Pregnancy Property Post by: Lisa Fernandez 8 June, 2009 - 4:28 PM

I remember some advice my GP gave me upon discovering I was pregnant. She said…"Lise, your body is now public property…get used to it". Now at the time I thought this was a very strange thing to say. I can understand being poked and prodded by my OB as part of the pregnancy process but public property???

Well 18 weeks later and it's starting to dawn on me. People LOVE to feel a rounded pregnant tummy. I mean…there IS a baby in there. And it might even be…moving…and it IS pretty mind-blowing so who can blame even complete strangers feeling compelled to reach out and cop-a-feel. Now the last time I had to use the term cop-a-feel was in reference to a drunk guy who thought my breasts looked quite attractive in my Witchery top.

Sadly…the only feels I cop now are from complete strangers who shriek, “Oh look! You’re pregnant!” and proceed to dive in – literally head first - without a second thought. Can the baby even HEAR what’s being mumbled into my tummy anyway???

Couchies…I ask…do you know where I’m coming from???

Lisa, I'm not kidding you, a guy who i had just met asked if he could rub his head on my belly. Shocked, I agreed and he proceeded to rub it all over my belly... right down to near my vagina... very disconcerting.

Hi Lisa, I totally agree!! I've had two children and with both pregnancy's total strangers come up and touch your belly I found it rather rude, even people talking to my belly whilst shopping was a shock!! Some people asked me if they could touched me and depending on who it was I would let them but others NO!! Wish you all the best with your pregnancy Lisa :-)

    Hi Lisa,

congratulations! Unfortunately you do become the Budda that people feel they have to rub for luck. You need to find a shirt with 'mind the bump' or 'private property' written on it. Yes it's fun when they start kicking and let people feel that, but it's not like you are running up to them to feel their belly's... it's the same both ways!

Hi there - I am one of the guilty ones - I absolutely go ga ga over pregnant women and love touching their bellies without really taking into account how they may feel - and only once have I been told off.

But from my point, I think it is such a wonderul thing and most women look so stunning.

My daugther is nearly 18, and if I am blessed enough to ever fall prgenant, it won't bother me in the slightest.

    Enjoy

So sorry to anyone that I may have offfended over the years.

i am not nor have i been pregnant, but i know that if someone thinks that they can say and do what they like when or if i do become preggers, i have news for them!!! Bugger off!!! Where is it written that pregnant woman become public property. i dont get any kind of overwhelming urge to touch bellies, in fact i find it freaky to want to. So if or when i ever become with child, to all of you who think you are getting a hormonal bitch, its just the normal me =)

I used to love it when people showed an interest and touched my baby bump. Having a baby is such a wonderful thing and people are generally amazed or interested by it not doing it in a funny way.

It actually surprised me how many men especially my husbands friends who wanted to feel the baby kick but were too afraid to ask. One day one of them plucked up the courage to ask me if they could feel the baby kick and then the others then asked if they could too. They all thought it was amazing.

Hope you have a great pregnancy

:o) Lisa it can be daunting at times having total strangers being drawn to your belly .Yes it sometimes makes you wonder if they forget about you at times. But to be honest at times when it gets towards the end and you think at times you are the biggest thing on earth with that tiny person inside and all the strain on your body is giving you the blues. A stranger admiring and wanting to touch you can make you feel so appreciated at warm filled with pride :o) This is your time to shine and if you can give someone else a warm fuzzy feeling and maybe just make their day why not. being pregnant is hard rewarding work Best of luck Andrea
