Perth Can't Drive
The Big Couch 23 September, 2009 - 12:41 PM
After two weeks holiday, Shane's convinced that Perth driver's are the worst in Australia.
What do you think? Is there any element of truth to Shane's rant?

i think the government concentrates a lot on new drivers and not enough on old. i would like to know what kind of laws are in place in other countries to having a licence. There are a lot of bad new drivers i agree, but is it just they're inexperience? Learners should learn simple maintanance on their car and do advanced lessons on how to controll their car. maybe the minimum age should be raised as well. it has been proven a teenage brain is not fully developed and can not properly understand the consequences of their action. can they understand the dangers of driving? i strongly think all drivers should have to redo a test every 10 years. you get it at 17 and don't get tested again till 60+ and only if someone dobs you in! how many road rules change in that time? and how many people slip into bad habits?! i personally know quite a few people that are a danger to themselves and others on the road, but they won't listen. maybe it's time the law made them.

I agree with Shane, Perth drivers have to be amongst the worst in the world.............., I spend a large amount of time in middle east countries and they at least have some idea, not like here, tailgating, cutting off unable to merge, cutting people off, sleeping or texting at traffic lights etc............., absolutely woeful

And Grace, please don't say that to people that are helping to grow your country. If you would be in another country than yours, surely you might like to be welcome there.
Anyway, Perth drivers aren't the best, but surely they aren't the worst. Trust me!
Just try to be more responsible and have less stress while driving. -

Perth has its own unique road rules:
1. When the road narrows to one lane, the person behind you has right of way.
2. To travel at the speed limit, you must travel in the right hand lane of a freeway.
3. If my car is bigger than yours, I have right of way
4. Always make sure that you travel at least 3 inches from the bumper in front of you
5. If you are driving a large truck, you only need 1 inch between you and the vehicle in front of you.
6. If the peron in front of you stops suddenly, (to avoid a collision, to avoid knocking over an animal or child running into the road,) and you hit them from behind, its their fault for stopping without giving prior notice.
7. To drive according to Perth rules, just follow and copy any marked police car - you will learn at least two things,
1. How to exit the freeway from the right hand lane
2. How to exceed the speed limit in school zones. When, during their learning phase, are youngsters taught how to use a freeway - the first time they get onto a freeway is when they get their P's. More education is what is needed - we cant change the old ways with the old drivers but we can change it by better driver education with the next generations.

I think it's a good thing that he thinks Perth drivers are the worst in perth, I'd be concerned if he thought otherwise.
I think merging is the worst ability shown by drivers in perth. Just look at the freeway! I also hate reactions at traffic lights, very slow. Everyone should look for the car infront of the car infront of you!
People going 10km/h under the speed limit on roads are very annoying!

WA has the worst drivers for sure. Tailgating, driving over the limit, the list is endless..... :-(
