Week 6: The Count Down
Count down is now on, and surprising to me the training is mainly walking and stretching leading upto the big day. Feeling as if I should be doing something more, but instead of listening to my body have now learnt to listen to the trainer. Well he should know what he's talking about.....
The last big run was on Sunday and very pleased with distance and time!
No colds/flu's to report even though everyone else in this household has. No aches or pains from running to report thankfully but still have plenty of Radox in for Sunday afternoon.
Feeling a little apprehensive about the day but so excited to be part of it.
Week 5: More 7km Triumph
7km completed yet again, because I have ran 7km straight four times now, can I now say "I regularly run 7km three times a week". It sounds good! That's double of what I used to do.
My family and I are newcomers to Herdsman Lake, what a gorgeous spot. Hubby with one child on the back of the bike, one child up ahead. At least it kept my pace up a bit.
One more training session to go and then having a look as to where I will actually be running. I can't believe how quick the run is coming around.
Steve's tip from Prime Health on the way to tie my shoes is doing wonders for my sore feet and of course new shoes and skins from Rebel Sports is certainly helping me to look more the part of the endurance runner, just need more stamina now and anything else that will help me on my way. Note to self must get legs waxed before the big day for aerodynamics!
Week 4: 7km Triumph
Oh yes! Just ran 7km, mmmm that's right 7km, twice around Lake Monger, yippee!!!! That's over half way of my target......
The amount of pedestrian traffic was pretty amazing. All different shapes and sizes, had a bit of a fright as I kept hearing this squeaking thing behind me and I couldn't work out what was making the noise. Next thing I know a lady ran or sort of hopped/jumped past me with a contraption strapped to each of her feet. I have no idea what they were and why.....like I said I was amongst alot of different people today.
My wonderful husband kept the kids at bay on the playground and it was great to see them all at the "finishing line". Was wondering how he was going to deal with toileting due to the fact I couldn't see any disabled ones...... hope the kids didn't use a tree LOL
Week 3: More Training
Oh what a beautiful morning! Not in the best of moods for training this morning but ended up enjoying it anyway.
This morning effort consisted of 4km run, boxing, circuit training and some horrible things called dips, well you can keep that exercise in the bag for someone else.
Pleased to say that the 4km run can be done in comfort now, but felt a little uncomfortable as I felt that we were being watched..... and we were by a mob of kangaroos! Wish I had my camera, doing my stretches with an audience hah!
Met the troops on "The Big Couch" today, it's like another world in there and Subiaco has changed so much in the past couple of years. Pleased I didn't smash the car as I did the last time I parked under cover....
Planning on an hour walk tomorrow and with the bulk refuse collection happening have located my three wheeler jogging pram, so off for a nice walk and a picnic I think.
Week 2: Post-Independent Training
Hardest session so far this morning, long hill run x 3 (that's Outlook Drive, in Edgewater), short hill run x 5, 4km run followed by me gasping for breath... Definitely looking forward to next weeks session as I'm having a go at boxing, might just get some frustration out, hope Steve's got plenty of padding!
Calves and quads are constricting as I type, hot bath would be a good thing now, but with paperwork due, school pick up and after school activities, I may be lucky to get one in about 8pm tonight. As long as I keep moving I shouldn't cease up.
Feeling a little daunted to think the longest that I have ran ever and that's in the last week is 6km and that's only half way to what I will be doing on the Big Day!!!!!!
Week 2: Independent Training
Hello world! No aches and pains for me this morning, and was looking forward to 5km run with hills! Pleased to say I ran the whole way without walking yippee! Great to catch up with two friends, instead of coffee and cake, it's a run. Yes my friends are quicker than me but a playful time had by all.
What another beautiful day out there, it's a great time of year for training, not too hot but cool enough to keep you comfortable. I was convinced that I would be training in the rain this morning but the good old Perth sun came shining through. How lucky we are to live in this great state!
My new mantra is:
The miracle isn't that I finished. The miracle is that I had the courage to start- John Bingham, running speaker and writer
Week 1: Pre-Session 1
First session with Personal Trainer coming up.....bit apprehensive as I really don't know what to expect.....
(Wonder if he'll be interested in WII injury LOL - really should have slowed down on the boxing).
4km run completed in a reasonable time through Padbury today, good timing for workout on Wednesday morning. Legs, hips, feet are aching already...
Week 1: Post-Session 1
Who would have thought when my friend first approached me last year to run the 4km City to Surf that I would be doing the 12km with a trainer? Well certainly not me. It was the furthest thing from my mind.
I don't know what made me ring Mix 94.5 as it's the first time ever I have entered a competition, that's any sort of competition, but looking forward to see if I can tell any difference in my fitness.
Pleased to have met trainer Steve and now have a little bit of an idea on what to expect from him. Apart from this last year I have never kept fit, or even gone for a walk, so I'm feeling pretty excited about the next 6 weeks.
After taking off three layers of jumpers etc, I was looking forward to having a bit of blood pumped around my body to keep me warm. It's a rare opportunity for me not to have a little one supposedly by my side, (usually running off) and to have an adult conversation. Even for first time training session I have learnt a little bit on what the muscles actually do. Glutes are actually your bum!!
I keep saying to myself that I have done well giving up the smokes, (smoked for 27 years) and for 4 months now, have been smoke free. But I want to see some results now!
Oh dear I'm starting to feel sore.....today was a getting to know me session only.... calves are tightening up, the shoulder blades for some reason are twinging too.
Great to see others running today too and I'm going to be part of it Yip Yip Yippee!!
Week 1: Session 2
Oh dear, no sleep for me last night, every time I moved my body it creaked, on top of that, I’ve got a sick little one too. The game of the night was musical beds... and all this after my very first session. Fingers crossed the aches will lesson.
Had a brisk walk yesterday as instructed by Steve. Once I get started I’m OK but wanting to save my energy and muscles for today’s session, session #2!
Feeling a little bit more flexible this morning.
So... a 6km run (not planned by me), but completed with Steve. Yay, I did it.
I'm sitting here typing and thinking how am I going to stand up? The weather is fantastic and it's great to be out and about but am I really going to run this distance twice???????
Hadn't realised that finding an hour to train would be as difficult as it is. It's just going to take a little more organising. Does it really matter that an omelet actually turns into scrambled eggs for tea?
Recovery tomorrow, have Radox soak at the ready and panadol in the cupboard. Sunday I have a 5km run planned, through ECU Campus. I'm hoping that I won’t have completely seized up by then.
Right, off for the school run. Pity the kids aren’t old enough for Kiss N Ride yet. I’ll have to hobble to the classroom!
