Gillard First Female PM Post by: Dan The Internut 24 June, 2010 - 9:04 AM

Julia Gillard.

Australia has woken to a new Prime Minister, and for the first time in history, Australia will be led by a woman.

A caucus meeting held this morning confirmed Kevin Rudd's worst fears, that the Australian Labor Party had lost faith in his leadership and wanted a change in direction, just 6 months out from the next federal election.

Once Julia Gillard is sworn in by our very first female Governor-General Quentin Bryce, she will be our 27th prime minister since Australia's federation.

How do you feel about Gillard as our new PM? Are you sorry to see Rudd go? And has Tony Abbott got more of a fight on his hands now?

Whoopeeeeeeee, I no longer have to fear turning on the telly and seeing that stupendous grinning buffoon and listen to his arrogant voice, talking to us the voters as if we were ignoramuses . At this stage anyone would be an improvement to listen too and look at.

Obviously more pleasing on the eyes but Labour is STILL Labour.

Poor policy, poor decisions, poor judgement and it is POOR us who have to suffer. Roll on the election!!!

Ahh Julia, what a magnificent maiden PM speech "I wanna do this....." and "I wanna do that....." - Such eloquence, such statewomanship? such a command of the language - Please have a minder tell her quietly the right words are "I WANT to...."

Absolutely stunned. Rudd achieved in a short time, what other Prime Ministers could only aspire to. This is clearly pressure brought on by the arrogance and short-sightedness of the business sector, primarily the mining companies who have reeked so much astounding damage to this country for which they take little responsibility. What's the point of having a job when you're living in a toilet? Mining profits SHOULD be taxed and also distributed equitably such as in the case of Timor where oil fields are plundered by the oil and gas giants. Lately, they've been spending more on propaganda than they do on the peope whom they exploit. I will be interested to see how Ms Gillard responds - hopefully not as a puppet.

Give Kevin his dues, he got Oz out of the recession and other countries leaders followed his method. Labour - Liberal, who cares they are all back stabbers but; Australia has come of age with a woman Prime Minister. Congrats Julia!

I think Julia has a lot of potential but now is not the time to take over. How often has a change of leadership before an election helped that party win enough votes to be re-elected? The PM'ship should be decided by the voters. I have always voted Labor but this party lost their nerve and panicked. Kevin achieved so much and had so much more to finish. Business, and in particular the mining companies, have a lot to answer for. If oil rich countries can share their resource wealth with their citizens why can't ALL Australians benefit from our resources instead of the wealthy few. The opposition are a joke. Where do we go now? Very disppointed in the lack of support Labor gave to the one person that showed he had the guts to fight for a "fair go" literally.

I agree with Phil. Its a sad day when we have come to this. To throw out the Prime Minster, no matter what party he leads. He was tough enough to stand up to the mining giants. I didn't vote for Mr Rudd, but he has done quite a good job. Lets see what happens now.

Its sad to think that our first women Prime Minister was not voted in by the people of Australia, but got her position by an under handed way. I did not like Kevin Rudd, but sad that the first women Prime Minister did not win with the peoples votes. Just remember when you do vote this party has no loyaties to even its own people in their party, what do you expect from them to run this country.
