Ian Blackley gets you through the most challenging part of your work day - that tough time between midday and 4pm - and there's nothing Ian likes more than a challenge. So what's Ian done that's built his character?
He graduated from Wembley Downs Primary School with Honours in "Tuckshop" then went on to Churchlands Senior High School.
He's a Scientific Instrument Maker by trade and has worked at UWA the CSIRO and ANU in Canberra. But Ian found all of that a bit of a bore because they didn't have radio stations.
Ian LOVES motorcycles and has owned 26 of them! He also loves fishing and has a particular fondness for G-Loomis rods and top end Daiwa reels.
Ian left Perth to work on radio in Queensland (because someone told him they had fish there) After that stint in Queensland he came back to the West and has been on radio in Perth since 1990. He joined Mix 94.5 in 1993 and has been with the station ever since. As Ian says "It's hardly a job. Love it."
And when you love your workday that much, you're bound to inspire others to get through theirs.
What you may not know about Ian Blackley
- He doesn't actually have a nickname, but everyone else on the planet seems to think it's Blackers so he tends to also answer to that.
- His favourite part of the day is falling asleep (unless it's at 2.30pm as it always causes problems).
- The songs he loves to play include Alison by Elvis Costello, Wavelength by Van Morrison, Love My Way by The Psychedelic Furs, No Say in It by The Machinations and quite a lot of new stuff inbetween.
- He passionately supports The Eagles ("...there's only one team isn't there?")
- His favourite celebrity moment was sitting on a stage-side roadcase at a Billy Joel concert next to Christie Brinkley. Since that moment, she hasn't returned his calls. Seeing it's been more than 15 years, he's decided to move on.
Fan of Underbelly?
Ian is a big fan of the Channel 9 series "Underbelly". He's been searching the internet for details on the key characters and found a few interesting websites. Here's just one of the many out there that he likes:
