Facebook Kills Two Million Users
People around the world have woken up to news that they have died, with Facebook mistakenly "killing" millions of users - complete with a memorial banner, encouraging friends to pay their respects.
Even CEO Mark Zuckerberg was hit by the glitch, with a message reading "We hope people who love Mark will find comfort in the things others share to remember and celebrate his life".
It was later confirmed that this digital death was a result of an error in updating the message on memorialised pages.
Memorialised accounts are a feature of the social networking site, with the Legacy Contact section of Facebook providing settings so you can get your online affairs in order.
A spokesperson for Facebook released the following statement:
"For a brief period today, a message meant for memorialized profiles was mistakenly posted to other accounts. This was a terrible error that we have now fixed. We are very sorry that this happened and we worked as quickly as possible to fix it."
