Your Say On Your City
Thanks For The Memories Ben Post by: Dan The Internut 17 August, 2010 - 8:38 AM

UPDATE
The Bunch talked to Julia Gillard about the Cousins announcement, and the Prime Minister herself offered kind words for the new retiree.
Will there ever be a player quite like Ben Cousins? Probably not.
Absolutely brilliant on the field, unbelievably controversial off it... no one in the AFL sold newspapers the way Ben did over his long yet chequered career.
Here's your chance to say thanks (or no thanks) for the memories. Will he be remembered for his brilliance on field, or his troubled life off it?
Either way, send Ben Cousins a retirement message.

I'd love to say you were overrated but you weren't... a bloody good footballer but did not agree with your life choices. Best of luck.

Sad to see you leave the big game Ben. You were the best football player I have ever seen. No one condones the drugs but many of us still think you were made a scapegoat when others in the AFL get off scott free. May the rest of your life be drug free and extremely happy - full of lots of love and laughter. Your a fighter Ben and that's why you've got this far - keep on truckin'. Di x

You are 1 of the best Ben and even though you have made some bad choices, you have over come the hurdles. You will always be number 1 in my book.

Love you Ben!! Always have and always will. Yes, you made some bad choices, haven't we all at times, but even though you had to pay a bigger price than most, you pulled yourself together in the public eye and I think this just showed that you guys are human after all. Well done and as Dianne said, I wish you well and hope that the rest of your life is filled with laughter and joy. You'll always remain my favourite Eagle ever. xx

I came to WA many years ago not knowing much about the AFL. I watched you start with the Eagles and admired your skills as an athlete. I watched games because of you and the team that developed around you. People make mistakes and run from it. You are an outstanding individual by admitting what happened and coming back. Few would do it. I wish you all the best in the future and thank you for being the person you are. -

Well done Ben you left on your terms and not the AFL's. I agree that you were made a scapegoat but you took your suspension and worked through your drug problem. You and your family have a lot to be proud of.

All the best of luck to Ben in his retirement. You've been through alot in recent years in one way or another. You've come out on top in your last year of footy even though your club didn't. I take my hat off to you Ben and the Tigers for giving you a chance, which you may or may not find unusual as I am a devoted Dockers fan. All the best mate.
