Should We Have Sunday Trading? Posted by Mix 94.5 15 June, 2009 - 10:37 AM

Most suburban shopping centres around Perth had the rare chance to open on a Sunday. Reports from various people around town were that the shops were overrun with mad shoppers keen to cash in on another day's trading.

With the extended trading hours debate back in full swing, we're curious:

  • Should the proposed extended trading hours changes coming include Sunday trading?
  • If shops were open on a Sunday every week, would the shops be as busy every week?

Have your say on extended trading hours here at Mix.

It was such a pain - Karrinyup Road was completely full all the way down to Gwelup - why couldn't you all shop on Saturday

If the shops were open every Sunday, then it wouldn't be such a rush to get there and the huge amount of traffic on the roads would even out.
Plus, maybe if kids had a job on Sunday, they might not all be out in Northbridge causing trouble on a Saturday night?

Get with the program anti Sunday Trading peeps, the rest of the world has embraced it why can't you? Could it be that you just can't move with the times??? Or is it that you just have plenty of time on your hands and can easily go shopping at ANY time of the week -that would explain why you have so much time left to complain!

Absolutely we should as we are so backward to the eastern states with our shops being closed so it is necessary for us to move forward and bring more visitors in due to having more to offer to them.

I would at the International Airport, and when we get Tourists come in on Sunday the first thing they usually ask, what shops are open, and they get a shock when you say the shops do not open on Sunday.

I Vote yes to sunday Trading, not only for the Tourists, but those of us that work shift work may actually get a chance to get to the shops.

Isn't it time for Perth to grow up and shake off this country town attitude. Of course we should have Sunday trading and extended trading hours.

IGA have started an advertising campaign against extended shopping hours. It appears to be a case of "do what I say not what I do" They have extended hours but are against it for anyone else. When they start shutting their doors at 5.30 during the week and not opening on a Sunday I will start hearing what they are saying.

We are the only State that doesn't have Sunday trading! We should definitely have it and it would ease the trade on a Saturday. I would prefer Sunday trading to late night every night of the week.
