US SURF FILM CASTLES IN THE SKY - AUSTRALIAN PREMIERE
Thursday 5 August, 7pm
Astor Theatre Mt Lawley
Online pre-sale: Adults $19, Under 16s $15
At the door: Adults and Children $22
Presale tickets from www.yallingupsurfilm.com.auThis screening of Castles in the Sky and short film Gum for My Boat mark a renaissance of surf film screen culture in Perth.
It has been several years since a regular series of surf films came to town, when surf film lovers would meet and rave about the weeks waves and dream of the ultimate barrels.
Filmed in five countries over three years, Castles in the Sky by Taylor Steele, is a completely new approach to surf filmmaking. Five of the worlds best surfers travel through these locations with a sense of open-minded awe. Dane Reynolds is in Iceland, Rob Machado in Peru, Dave Rastovich in India and Jordy Smith in Africa. With never-before-seen waves, an original score, and some of the best surfers in the world contributing their art, passion and athleticism, this is as close to the experience of pioneering new coastlines as you can get without being on a plane!
Gum For My Boat is a story of hope focusing on the Bangladesh Surf Club. The club consists of more than 30 boys and girls and is helping to introduce surfing into a culture in an unconventional method. Many of the children are street kids or come from very poor families. Some don't even know how to swim, but their love for surfing brings them together and into a way of life they never even knew existed.
The Astor bar will be open and door prizes up for grabs courtesy of Funs Back & Otis.
