Calling for planters:
Men of the Trees is calling for planters and supporters for this years tree planting program. This year we have launched a new major revegetation project - Diversity across the Wheatbelt. Were Putting it back, together. For this first year we have adopted two catchment groups and will need 600 people to plant 120,000 seedlings over 5 days.
To register contact the Manager of the Men of the Trees Revegetation Centre, Mrs Erin Lee, on 9274 4842, or register on-line at http://www.menofthetrees.com.au/event-registration.html
Background:
Farmers today are facing huge challenges. Last years crop was for many the third negative income year in a row. While so far this year is shaping up well in many areas, for many it will be make or break. With so many pressures just to remain solvent, often the first thing to be taken off the to do list is much needed revegetation work.We believe that there is an increasing divide between Western Australias urban and rural populations with many metropolitan residents having no contact with regional Australia our people, their issues, the wider environment.
Putting it back, together is about urban and rural people working together to help put the landscape and regional communities, back together.

FREE TREES FOR PERTH DRIVERS ON NATIONAL TREE DAY
Cars We Wash is supporting National Tree Day and Schools Tree Day by giving away Australian native trees and shrubs on Friday 29 July to Sunday 31 July 2011.
National Tree Day and Schools Tree Day combine to make Australias biggest community tree-planting event. Co-ordinated by Planet Ark, its a chance for everyone to get their hands dirty, beautify their school and neighbourhood and help the planet at the same time.
All customers that visit Cars We Wash 395 Wanneroo Road in Balcatta will receive a hardy, waterwise tree or shrub that will encourage native birds into the garden and help to combat climate change by locking up carbon in its growing tissue.
This is our second year of giving away Australian native plants for National Tree Day. We do it to encourage others who have a passion for the environment to get involved in the community events that are being coordinated by Planet Ark on the last weekend in July, says Cars We Wash spokesperson and horticulturalist Mark Tucek.
Cars We Wash is committed to protecting the environment in our day to day running of the business, says Tucek. We recycle up to 80% of the water used for each car and only use biodegradable detergents. Using a commercial carwash is far more environmentally friendly than washing the car at home on the front driveway.
Apart from wasting valuable water, the simple chore of washing the car can also have a serious impact on our waterways and marine wildlife. Extensive research has determined that the equivalent of 3000 to 4000 Olympic-sized swimming pools of toxic waste and sludge is being directed into our stormwater systems across Australia as a result of vehicle washing on hard surfaces.
