Curtains For Daylight Post by: Mix 94.5 17 May, 2009 - 10:08 AM
The people of WA have spoken, and it's an emphatic "NO" to the introduction of Daylight Saving as a permanent summer fixture. The results were overwhelming. With just over 71% of the votes tallied, "No" was a clear winner with almost 56% of the vote. This left the "Yes" vote too far behind.
We'd love to hear from you.
- Are you happy or sad with the result?
- Would you have voted yes had the question referred to an end to Daylight Saving in February (rather than March)?
- Is the end of the Daylight Saving debate for good?

I reckon it was rigged!!! My partner could not even vote even though he was enrolled - they said they had no record of him even though he was registered! I reckon the government should just enforce it! Enough of this referendum stuff which costs people money - just put it in place and let everyone deal with it!

TOTALLY disappointed ... I thought WA had progressed but with daylight savings a no and extended shopping hours a no, we are sadly behind the times.

Squiddy, words like disgusted and backwards are a bit strong. Have you ever thought about it that daylight savings is an outdated idea (World War I), and that people who voted No did it for very logical reasons.

I hope those who made such an effort to exercise their NO option stay in WA and don't travel interstate in case they have to alter their watches. The range of "reasons" and excuses for not having daylight saving paint all of us in WA in a bad light. (Perhaps a sanity check before being allowed to vote should be compulsory)

I was very disappointed to find out that I was not allowed to vote my YES for daylight savings because I had not updated my address with the electoral commision in time. Not only was I not allowed to vote at my nearest polling centre, but I wasn't allowed to go to my actual registered centre once I had been advised I wasn't allowed to vote. I strongly believe that I an many other "young" voters wouldve had this same issue, and hence the 'NO' outcome a miscount.
