We’re guessing quite a few heavy metalists went to bed last night like excited little school children following confirmation that, yes, Metallica will be back in Australia before the year is out.

The hard rock gods were last in Oz six years back when they bizarrely headlined the Big Day Out festival.

This time they’re here as part of their on-going World Magnetic tour – now in its second year – in support of their most recent release, 2008’s Death Magnetic.

Metallica were in Russia this week where they played a couple of mammoth stadium gigs.

They are set to land in Australia on October, play gigs in Brisbane and Perth, then head back home to the US for a couple of weeks before coming back to finish off the rest of the tour.

Supports for the September concerts will be Fear Factory and The Sword, while for October they'll be Lamb Of God and Baroness.

Tickets for all the Oz gigs go on sale 9am, May 13, with a pre-sale taking place a day earlier. For more info go to: www.ticketek.com.au
