As we roll in to the new year, readers of Rolling Stone magazine have revealed what they deem the best albums of the 80s and the award goes too… Joshua Tree by U2.

The massive U2 album was rated ahead of AC/DC's Back In Black and the Michael Jackson's classic Thriller.

Rolling Stone editors said it was a "close race" with the Top 10 rounded out by The Cure's Disintegration and the thrash metal Master Of Puppets by Metallica.

Rolling Stone's Top 10 Albums Of The 80s
1. U2: The Joshua Tree
2. Guns N' Roses: Appetite for Destruction
3. Michael Jackson: Thriller
4. Bruce Springsteen: Born in the USA
5. Prince: Purple Rain
6. AC/DC: Back in Black
7. The Smiths: The Queen is Dead
8. The Clash: London Calling
9. The Cure: Disintegration
10. Metallica: Master of Puppets
