Happy Birthday Bon Scott Post by: Dan The Internut 9 July, 2010 - 5:39 AM
It’s hard to believe but the legendary AC/DC frontman, Bon Scott would have turned 64 today if he was still with us.
We lost the great Bon 30 years ago at the age of 33. But even today, as his former outfit remains arguably the biggest rock band on the planet, people everywhere remember Bon in their own way.
In Fremantle, Bon’s adopted town outside Perth, there’s a big bronze statue of the singer. While fans all over the world never cease to amaze in the lengths they'll go to show how much they love him.
If you've never seen footage of Bon in action, here's a rare gem from the band's tour of Britain in 1976. In an interview with ABC's Countdown, legendary Scott is seen wandering around Covent Garden in very tight denim shorts replete with a banana hanging out the top.
It's clear from the clip that Bon is the star of the show, as he injects his trademark wit into answering all manner of questions from a suitably uptight British reporter.
One of the first people powerful music industry figure Michael Gudinski ever worked with was Bon Scott and he recently spoke about the first time he ever met the legendary Bon.
"Certainly Bon Scott opened my eyes (to rock n' roll excess)," he said. "He was the first guy I ever went on the road with. He was a ripper. He was in a pop band called The Valentines. I was a virgin still living at home and went on a bus to Adelaide with him and I've never forgotten it."
Happy Birthday, Bon – you and your music will live forever.
Please share your thoughts on the great Bon Scott.
