Coldplay has started recording their follow-up to the multi-million selling Viva La Vida – without singer Chris Martin!

Have the rest of the band finally realised their singer is a bit of a wanker? That he dresses like an idiot? That he dances like a spaz? Apparently none of the above.

Martin was out doing a round of radio interviews in London over the weekend, playing a handful of Coldplay hits solo for the first time ever, when he revealed that the other guys in the band – whose names no-one can ever remember – were locked-up in a nearby recording studio without him at the insistence their producer, Brian Eno.

"He [Eno] wrote to us and said he thought the last album was okay, but it could have been better," Martin explained. "He said he still wanted to work with us but I was banned from the studio. He said, 'You can do better without the singer!'" And his ego.

Of course, Coldplay – with spazzy dancer in tow – begin their Aussie tour in Perth at the end of this month. Before that, they’re in the US for the Grammy Awards, where they’re up for seven of the gold things.
